Superfood Smoothies now a New York Times Bestseller

From rejection letters to the most recognized list! We did it!!!

A little over 5 years ago I self-published my first book. I initially couldn’t get a publisher on board with the idea of promoting superfood-centric recipes and information, so I decided to create a handmade version of my dream cookbook anyway. I believed in the power of superfoods, and knew first-hand their life-changing effects on health and energy.

I’ve since been afforded the opportunity to publish several more books with my phenomenal publisher Sterling, and meanwhile my belief in superfoods as an incomparable health tool has only continued to grow. I find myself continually stimulated and enchanted by the culinary potential of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, and I certainly have no shortage of inspiration (thanks nature). So, to achieve the unbelievable honor of having my second book, Superfood Smoothies, listed on the New York Times Bestsellers list this week, I’m humbled beyond words.

Thank you to everyone who has brought my books and superfoods into their lives, kitchen and family; I hope they bring you as much treasured health and delicious happiness as they have to me. It goes without saying, I am so very, very grateful for your support. ~ Julie

    Congratulations, Julie!! I love your book as well – bought it in the spring of 2013 at Williams Sonoma. I was looking for recipes for smoothies that were healthier & more nutritious. I had never heard of any of these super foods so I read your book like a novel & loved learning about them! I live in Houston so they were easy to find. I am in my mid-70’s, very active & love learning to cook a healthier way. You were the beginning of this journey for me! You’re great!

  3. Congratulations and thank you. Your book is like the super foods you write about….easy to digest and packed full of healthy goodness!!
    I immediately ordered most of the “top 15” online, but was so anxious to get started that I’ve already made several of the recipes. Even though lacking one or two of the superfood ingredients, they were delicious!! I’m really looking forward to maximizing the health benefits along with the great taste. It must be very gratifying to know you’re touching so many lives in such a positive way. Well done!

  5. I just bought the book, Superfood Smoothies, an dwas blown away by your story and the gorgeous photos. Ater reading practiacally cover to cover about what benefits come from what and balancing my own interests, I made a list of the things I wanted to try first: cocoa, goji berries, coconut ice and ran off to Whole Foods. Well I came back and had not the right combo of whatever to follow any recipe as I flipped through th ebook exactly — so I made one up!!! Plums, goji berries, cacao nibs, sunflower seeds (raw), lemon zest, lemon juice, ginger and ice! Voila!!! I am soooooo hooked! I feel a literal superfood rush! I have coconut ice and bananas freezing in the freezer and will be getting mint, spinich, dates, mulberries and chia tomorrow! I had interest in rejeuvenating my health after three long years of extreme stress. I plan to pass this book on to many others. Thank you, Julie, for following your heart from self publisihng to the best seller list and sharing yourself with us!

    Hi Julie! I love your book Superfood Smoothies so much, I want to make your recipes every day. I was wondering, would it be healthy to limit myself strictly to a superfood smoothie diet? Will I get all of the nutrients I need from your recipes, or would it be better to balance the smoothies out with other foods?

  8. Hi Julie! I love your book, but I do find myself with runny smoothies at times. I cut all the recipes in half (it’s always just for me), and have tried to lower the liquid content. But the pictures look much thicker and the superfood smoothies I buy at the store is always pretty thick. What are your thoughts on making it thicker/dealing with runny smoothies?

    • Great question Nicole – I’ll try to do a post on this in the future. But quickly – adding ice will always help. Or you can add a couple spoonfuls of oats, chia gel, or avocado to get you started.

    Hello! I love, love, love this book and have been making at least 2 or 3 of the smoothies a week for years now. I particularly love the Cacao Mocha and Mint Chip. Yumm.

    I’m wondering if you have the recipes indexed by each individual ingredient in a database somewhere. I ask because oftentimes I’ve bought a special ingredient or two for one recipe but want to use those ingredients in other recipes before they go bad, but there’s not an easy way to look for those, since the index at the end of the book only lists the primary ingredients, not every one. I’d love to have a way to search, for example, “smoothies that use hemp seeds, celery and coconut water.” Any suggestions welcome!

    • Oh I’m so happy to hear this! 🙂 Unfortunately the index is the closest thing we have to finding individual ingredients. I hear where you’re coming from though – my brain also yearns to “google search” things to find and collect information efficiently. Thanks for the input!
